(Mr. T's Sports Report) Iron Mike Tyson, a study in heart, talent, & education

Mike Tyson. It’s amazing how a person’s name instantly whips-up an epic Titanic-like movie in our minds.  I often ask children to repeat their full names so that they do not take their own lifetime epic movie and epic potential for granted.  It doesn’t matter how brilliant or unrefined a person is, their life can become something for all to marvel over; especially if they invest their time into a positive activity that compliments their talents.

(Mr. T's Sports Report) Bryant looked like a pointy-face, fang-bearing, Tasmanian devil

(Mr. T's Sports Report) Bryant looked like a pointy-face, fang-bearing, Tasmanian devilThere are a lot of good things going on in the Twin Cities these days, and I hope that everyone here is enjoying the pre-Freeze festivities. I gotta think some more on this Mike Tyson interview with Oprah. By the time it’s said and done they are going to have university classes about that dude: Interesting life he has led.

(Mr. T's Sports Report) There’s something about Minnesota

The whole country is gushing over what’s going on within the borders of Minnesota these days.  Turn on every television channel that even grazes the subject of sports, and one of the hometown headliners graces the air. Turn on Univision (the Spanish speaking station), and sandwiched between the words you may or may not understand, will be the word Minnesota; I imagine that the Japanese station is the same, especially since the Twins are playing the vaunted New York Yankees, who boast multiple Japanese players to their roster.

(Mr. T's Sports Report) New stadium, new Gophers, new hopeImpressive, necessary, and game-on. Those were the thoughts that ran through my head while watching the first few plays of the 2009 Gopher Football Season.  And though my first thought was ‘impressive’ --in reference to the new TCF Bank Stadium-- I waited until after attending the second home game before deciding that the 2009 Gopher football team was also impressive.

(Mr. T's Sports Report) The result for Blount is branding for life, and the loss of multiple millions of dollars

(Mr. T's Sports Report) The result for Blount is branding for life, and the loss of multiple millions of dollarsLoose lips sink ships; I’ll never forget my older brother telling me that one.  The altercation which took place following the recent University of Oregon versus Boise State University football game was a useful example of the Loose Lips Theory, and much more.  Following the incident involving Oregon star running-back LeGarratte Blount his coach referred to the young man as a good kid, and that this unforgettable event would result in a “teachable moment.”  I couldn’t agree more, but think attention needs to be paid to the larger scene, in order to absorb some greater lessons.

(Mr. T's Sports Report) Track MN Elite sews seeds of a National Championship

(Mr. T's Sports Report) Track MN Elite sews seeds of a National ChampionshipAt the recent 2009 AAU Junior Olympics held at Eastern Michigan University there were 172 heats of the 100m Dash.  If we estimate that on average six athletes run in each heat, then that equals over 1,000 youth who competed against each other in a singular event, and the many other events were much the same.
