Nigeria and Russia clash over rights to aluminum plant

Jul. 10 (GIN) – Nigeria's Supreme Court has ruled against one of the most powerful industries in Russia, promising what could be a very nasty fight.

Moscow-based Rusal, the world's biggest aluminum producer, claims to have bought the former state-owned Alscon aluminum processing plant, fair and square. It was sold by Nigeria's privatizing agency that now faces scrutiny for selling off Nigeria's state assets for less than their worth.

Mandela's birthday clouded by leaked email from Winnie to ANC

Jul. 10 (GIN) – As preparations get underway for the July 18th, 94th birthday of former president Nelson Mandela, hurt and angry feelings were expressed by Winnie Madikizela-Mandela who claimed ‘shabby treatment’ by the ruling ANC party.

The Mail & Guardian newspaper reported that Mrs. Madikizela-Mandela accused the ANC of disrespecting the Mandela family and of “never having any interest in celebrating Tata’s (Mandela’s) birthday except to gate crash on the family’s arrangements.”

LOS ANGELES (NNPA) —Rodney Glen King’s apparent accidental death at age 47 has prompted a flood of media punditry about the legacy of a life rife with misfortune. It was young Glen, as he was called, who had discovered his father’s body in the family bathtub. Rodney Sr. reportedly drank himself to death when Rodney Jr. was in high school.

Republican Chris Fields looks to unseat Congressman Ellison from the U.S. House

Minnesota’s Fifth Congressional District has been a Democratic stronghold for years, so it would seem its current seat holder, Rep. Keith Ellison, has an easy path to re-election this November.

His Republican challenger, Chris Fields sees things a bit differently.

“I’m no dummy,” said Fields during a recent interview at his condo in the Warehouse District. “In 2006, 60 percent of democrats didn’t vote for [Ellison] in the primary. 44 percent of voters didn’t vote for him in the general. We [Republicans] haven’t put a credible candidate up against him.”

Gunshot kills Nizzel George, 5

June 27, 2012, (MINNEAPOLIS) Police continue their investigation into the circumstance of the death of 5-year-old Nizzel Anthony George.

Homicide investigators, officers from the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team and Fourth Precinct officers are working to find answers and to try and identify the responsible party. George was killed Jun. 26 when a bullet struck him while he laid sleep on a living room couch. The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. that morning on the 4500 block of Bryant Ave N. in the Camden neighborhood.
