Pawlenty strikes again: His favorite target; the poor

State Rep. Bobby Joe Champion (DFL-Minneapolis) today said Governor Pawlenty’s veto of the General Assistance Medical Care (GAMC) program has a negative impact on Hennepin County Medical Center and Minnesotans served by HCMC.

“Governor Pawlenty’s veto of GAMC funding is another direct hit by this Governor to his favorite target - the poorest people in the state.  His actions will decimate Hennepin County Medical Center with cuts of more than $108 million.”

“This is money used to treat the poorest people in our state - including the mentally ill, veterans and senior citizens. It is a slap in the face to 30, 000 Minnesotans and the hospitals that treat them.”

“And this is just the beginning – it will only get worse when he begins to unallot.”

“After record numbers of Minnesotans and Americans turned out this past November to make their voices heard, the Governor’s actions strike at the very heart of the concept of representative democracy.”
