Criminal charges have been filed in the death of 4-year-old Demond Keith Reed. Carla Cherisse Poole was charged with murder in the second degree (intentional) (felony).

According to the complaint, Reed was staying with Poole at 3118 Morgan Ave N. after his father was temporarily incarcerated. On Feb 6th Poole instructed her daughter to contact Reed's family and explain to them that he was missing. A family member came to the residence and called 911 and reported that Reed was missing. In initial interviews with police, Poole stated that a friend named "Shawna" had come to the house and had taken Reed without her consent. Police checked the "Shawna" lead and were unable to corroborate what was given.

On February 9th investigators interviewed an 11 year-old, Child A, child A about Reed's disappearance. Child A stated that during the weekend of Feb 1st Reed had soiled his pants and was spanked by the Poole. After the spanking Reed had a seizure, vomited and then his health deteriorated over the next several hours. Child A said that Poole talked about calling 911 but decided not to so because she was afraid. Child A further reported that Poole attempted to give CPR but that was unsuccessful. Poole then left the child in the bed for 2 days before moving the child's body to a closet on the first floor. Child A described the body as physically disfigured at that point. Child A further stated that she was directed by Poole to tell the story that "Shawna" had taken Reed. Child A did eventually tell investigators that there was no "Shawna".

During the execution of a search warrant at 3118 Morgan Av N. Police recovered the child's body hidden in a closet as described by Child A. The child's body was hidden in a green canvas bag that was inside another black plastic bag. Poole's fingerprints were found on the black plastic bag by forensic examiners.

According to the complaint another child, Child B, witnessed the beating of the child and stated that he and another child were directed to hold Reed down during the beating.

The Medical Examiner has determined that Reed died from homicidal violence with numerous injuries to his upper body. Additional tests are underway by the Medical Examiner's Office.

Homicide Sgt's Dunlap, Holthusen, Gaiters and Granger worked extensively interviewing witnesses and suspects over and over again during span of several days until they obtained a lead they could go forward with. Additionally, numerous uniformed officers along with community members canvassed the area searching and handing out fliers in an attempt to get information.

Poole is being held in custody at the Hennepin County Adult Detention Facility. Bail has been set at $1 million. A booking photo is available.
