Drama script-writing contest on HIV/AIDS in West African Communities in Minnesota

The West African HIV/AIDS Collaborative (Sponsored by Minnesota Department of Health HIV & STD section) is launching a drama script-writing contest for a 20-minute drama piece, targeting the Liberian and/or Cameroonian communities with specific messages about HIV/AIDS. The first and second winning scripts will receive prices of $1000 and $500 respectively. Eligible entries will be approximately 20 minutes long (30 pages maximum) and aim to: The West African HIV/AIDS Collaborative (Sponsored by Minnesota Department of Health HIV & STD section) is launching a drama script-writing contest for a 20-minute drama piece, targeting the Liberian and/or Cameroonian communities with specific messages about HIV/AIDS. • Promote knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS as relevant to the Liberian and/or Cameroonian communities of the Twin Cities, including correcting myths about HIV/AIDS and information aimed at reducing risk for HIV infection
• Dispel stigma
• Encourage screening and testing for HIV
• Convey information regarding HIV care and social resources

Target Audience: Cameroonians and Liberians
Deadline for submissions: February 20, 2008
Notification Date: March 15, 2008
Eligibility: Contest is open to all who have personal experience or understanding of the Liberian and/or Cameroonian communities and cultures.
Rules: Only one copyrighted feature drama script will be judged per entry. Scripts must be in English and may include cultural expressions or slang commonly understood by the target audience, accompanied by a l - 2 page, double spaced synopsis.
The winners will sign over copyright of this material to the Minnesota Department of Health and the West African AIDS Collaborative. The Collaborative may also ask the winners to adapt their scripts to best deliver the messages. Entries should be emailed or mailed to the contact below:
