Do you remember Luther Vandross’ slow jam, “Here and Now?” Lately I’ve been strolling down “Memory Lane,” listening to many of the popular love songs from back in the day. I was reminded that many of those old-school jams hold the secret to true romance. In those songs, there was an element of mystery, innuendos, and implications. Today in our microwave society, we no longer take the time to romance our spouses and sweethearts.

Change is in the air! Can you smell it?

Change is in the air! Can you smell it? Many of us are still high off of one of the biggest changes we will ever experience: Barack Obama’s inauguration.  I wasn’t able to attend the inaugural events, but as I sat glued to my television screen I felt an energy that I knew would have been 10 times greater if I had been there. Inspired by one man’s accomplishment, millions of people descended upon Washington D.C. motivated to be a part of history, and many went through great lengths to be there. There were reports of people who slept in office buildings, participated in contests, traveled cross country by bus or car.  People did whatever they needed to get to Washington, DC.

Celebrating our anniversary at Fogo'sI can hardly believe it, but December marked my 18th year of marriage.  It feels like only yesterday when my husband, Lonnie, and I met on the campus of Michigan State University. Now, 18 years, three kids, and seven moves later, we still like each other.  At the time that I met my husband, I was dating someone else, but I thought Lonnie was such a good friend because he was so easy to talk to and so much fun.  I even confessed to a girlfriend, “I wish that boyfriends could be like real friends.”
