Minneapolis Board of Education announces superintendent search process

The Minneapolis Board of Education at a meeting on October 13 announced preliminary steps in the process to select a new superintendent for the 2010-11 school year. In July 2009, Superintendent William Green announced that he would not seek a renewal of his contract, which will expire on June 30, 2010.

Hennepin County recognized four Minneapolis public schools with 2009 Wellness by Design School awards. The award recognizes public and private schools that go above and beyond in creating healthy environments for students and staff.

Minneapolis Board of Education approves Changing School Options recommendation

MINNEAPOLIS – The Minneapolis Board of Education at its September 22 meeting voted to amend and approve the recommendation for Changing School Options, a comprehensive plan to create financial sustainability for the Minneapolis Public Schools. The final vote was unanimous in favor of the recommendation.

Changing School Options transition team begins work

MINNEAPOLIS – Minneapolis Public Schools Superintendent William D. Green announced September 23 the establishment of an implementation steering committee and cross-functional working team charged with assisting families during transitions that will result from Changing School Options, a comprehensive plan to create financial sustainability for the Minneapolis Public Schools that was approved by the Board of Education on September 22.

Schools can’t do it all

More than 40 years of education research proves that when families and community members are involved in the work of educating children, those children succeed. They receive better grades, have fewer discipline problems, choose harder courses, graduate, and continue their educations at higher rates. Volumes are written about how important families are to children’s achievement, and schools and teachers often try creative and interesting methods of reaching out to families.
