The rain held off respectfully at Edison High School's Pete Guzy Field on Friday evening (Oct. 11) for the football game between the visiting North Community High and Edison Tommies, but a long history of rivalry reigned over the turf at game time.
North over South in Minneapolis high school football
Monday, 07 October 2013 13:41
Only one player on a football team can score a touchdown on one play at any given moment.
But the entire team can cheer for the feat. And they can also demonstrate the satisfying team effort in winning the game. Such was the case for the North Community High Polars in its win over South High School, 50-19, on Friday, Sept. 27, at Hobbs Field.
As part of Xcel Energy’s 2013 Day of Caring, more than 500 Xcel Energy employees, family members, retirees and friends volunteered at more than a dozen nonprofit organizations in Minnesota. Xcel Energy’s employees have a long history of giving back to the communities it serve as they donated more than 20,000 hours in 2012. Market bucks, EBT purchases make Farmers Markets accessible
Wednesday, 04 September 2013 12:21
Minneapolis Farmers Markets accept EBT purchases and participate in the Market Bucks (matching) program; leaders in a growing trend seen across Minnesota
As we experience the abundance of the harvest in Minnesota, farmers markets are at their most lively. In Minneapolis, nine farmers markets have purposefully worked to ensure all community members have access to their dizzying variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, local breads, honey and more. Thanks to a collaborative effort between these markets, the Minnesota Department of Human Services and the Center for Prevention at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota (Blue Cross), low-income Minnesotans who participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps) can use their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards to purchase affordable and healthy food at farmers markets in every corner of the city, from West Broadway to Fulton.
Unfortunately on Monday, July 29, a young man was shot in the block where my barbershop is located. Eddie's Barber Shop is located at 4301 4th Ave. S. in Minneapolis. Although the shop was closed at the time and, of course, the shooting had nothing to do with my business, I spent considerable time answering questions from the police and the media.
