Church leaders announce multi-racial statewide civic engagement initiative

ISAIAH clergy and religious leaders this week announce plans to launch a multi-racial grassroots voter mobilization program around common values and an equity agenda. This program is called the Prophetic Voter campaign and seeks to reach 56,000 religious voters, many who are unlikely to vote in non-presidential election years. ISAIAH, a non-profit coalition of over 100 congregations from various faith traditions works in the Twin Cities, St. Cloud and greater Minnesota, to establish racial and economic justice.

The events in Ferguson have captured the attention of the African American community, at a national level and locally here in Minnesota. But Minnesota has its own longstanding struggle with the relationship between its black community and law enforcement. That injustice is all too obvious and Terrell Franklin, whose life was taken on Friday, May 10 around 3:30pm by the Minneapolis police, is an all too recent reminder of that dysfunctional and ultimately destructive relationship.
