Women united to win

March is Women’s History month. It is set aside as a time to celebrate those who have gone on before us and inspire those yet to come. This month will feature events and activities that will both educate the mind and uplift the spirit. It is also a time to prepare for the work ahead. Women around the world have overcome great odds, including that of domestic violence. That is why I am happy to be a part of the 5th Annual “Women Unite to Win” Women’s Appreciation Banquet schedule to be held Sunday, March 17, 2013. Domestic violence is an ugly little truth that has permeated our community.

March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom

The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom or "The Great March on Washington" was one of the largest political rallies for human rights in United States history and called for civil and economic rights for African Americans. The march was planned and initiated by A. Philip Randolph, the president of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, president of the Negro American Labor Council, and vice president of the AFL-CIO. Randolph along with a group of civil rights, labor, and religious organizations organized the march under the theme "jobs and freedom".

When the heart is like a battlefield

Sometimes relationship can seem like a battle and the heart like a battlefield. During this battle, friendly fire can occur. "Friendly-fire," is a military term that I use to describe a situation in which someone that is on your side, someone that is suppose to be there to protect you, causes you harm. Friendly-fire can be deadly. In relationships, the most grievous of all friendly-fire is infidelity. When men and women are unfaithful, they cause harm to the very person they should be protecting.
