Volunteer to save your own life

That could be me. This was only one of the many realities teenager Mo struggled with when her friend and teammate, super healthy Emily, was diagnosed with Leukemia two years ago. Another was, I'm a kid; what can I possibly do to help? Mo's desire to help outwrestled her sadness, confusion and birth-age and what she did next helped not only Emily, but many others, and probably Mo herself. She volunteered.

Interview review

After a "pretty good" job interview, Bryant viewed the replay with some skepticism.  He said, "I think it went well, but you never know.  I did a lot of preparation but she asked one difficult question I was not prepared for."  Preparing for every possible question that might come up in an interview is impossible.  Knowing what types of questions, generally, might come up can give help tremendously.

Get visual for better results

Quick! Describe your favorite TV commercial!  For many people, this is easy to do because we live in a visual culture.  TV, YouTube, FaceBook, Pinterest… we take in information through the eyes the way we ingest food through our mouths.  And then we walk into a meeting or presentation bearing written handouts outlining the written slides on our not-so-powerful PowerPoint.

Website developer Kitty ignored the call coming in from a project manager at work. “She’s always yelling at me,” Kitty told her friends.  If the project manager could hear that comment, she might reply, “You’re always missing deadlines.”  And both statements would be true.  Even before Kitty ignored her call the project manager (PM) was livid.  “Kitty is talented and she knows it, so she gets away with being a diva.”  Some people crave attention, even if it is negative and puts their employment in jeopardy.   This time, the PM was not going there with Kitty.  This time, she tried something completely different.

Back to School? Stick with It
Ah, September! When the leaves change and the school buses come out and everyone gets new backpacks and goes back to old routines. Reality check: for some people, back-to-school is a dreaded thing. Whether the fall brings high school, college, rehab or the graduate program you have been dragging yourself through, seeing it through to the finish line, to graduation, is not always fun, easy or even imaginable. Admit it. And then try a few tricks to help yourself stick it out.
