If gays want to marry, who are we to judge?

I’m having a little trouble understanding why there’s all this flap about “marriage equality.”

I read somewhere that half of all marriages end in divorce. Not surprisingly, all of mine have. No one in their right mind should care about my opinion on who they should marry.

If loving, consenting adults want to share their lives and their troth, who am I to say them nay? Who is anyone to weigh in?

Voter suppression is a real issue in 2012

It is becoming clear that if you are not one of the richest one percent of Americans and you voted for Pres. Barack Obama in 2008, you are in jeopardy of losing your right to vote later this year.

In every state under Republican control – thank God for Mark Dayton – laws are being enacted aimed at suppressing the number of voters who figure to support the President in 2012.

Put kids, not teachers first

NOBODY ASKED ME, but I remember now why I was so sorry that Chris Stewart and T Williams left the Minneapolis School Board. The Board of Education, the community, and all Minneapolis school kids should be sorry, too. Those two men brought a level of thoughtfulness and professionalism to the Board that has not been matched by two of their replacements.

Over his head

Nobody Asked Me

But, even at my advanced age, I am astounded by Mitt Romney’s racist suggestion that Barack Obama is “a nice guy, but, is in over his head.” A patronizing and racist thought all rolled in to just a few words.

I remember when Blacks were believed to lack the essential brain power to be NFL centers, much less quarterbacks. I remember when average, white, major league baseball players were celebrated as having great baseball smarts, while great Black players were said to have amazing ‘natural’ instincts. So, it follows that, in small Republican minds, being President of the “greatest country in the free world” would be a huge stretch for a “Negro;” even one that’s been housebroken at Harvard. If you close your eyes, you can visualize Romney patting Obama on the head.
