Ellison, Klobuchar introduce legislation to combat predatory lending

WASHINGTON, D.C. – US Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) introduced important legislation to combat mortgage lending abuses. The Homeowner Fairness Act is comprehensive housing reform legislation that proposes tough new national standards based on the successes of the Minnesota mortgage lending law passed in 2007. Ellison, a Member of the House Financial Services Committee, introduced similar legislation in the previous session of Congress.

Wells Fargo announced last week that with the National Urban League it will co-sponsor a new edition of The Foreclosure Workbook: The Complete Guide to Understanding Foreclosure and Saving Your Home. The workbook, written by foreclosure author Carla Douglin, will be free-of-charge to at-risk customers across the nation through Wells Fargo’s Leading the Way Home initiative.

COLUMBUS, OH--Afrcan Americans are more optimistic about their financial future over the next year than the general population, but the majority of those responding acknowledge they don’t have a financial game plan and many don’t know where to start. A new survey of 1,200 participants commissioned by The Smiley Group and Nationwide Insurance shows 58 percent of African Americans expect their household situation to be better a year from now, compared to only 30 percent of the general population sharing similar optimism.
