Iniating her featured segment, motivational speaker Verna C. Simmons, self-help author of The Power of People gave her thought for the day, advancing the philosophy of “Just-Is”.

In her accustomed exuberance, Simmons both informed and regaled those on hand, saying, “Just-Is folk are simply that. You didn’t ask them to show up [in your life]. They just did. The key is what do you do with [them]. First, try your very best to respect them. You don’t have to like them. Some of them you’ll never like. Some of your parents don’t even like you. Get over it. Manage your time with Just-Is folk. You don’t have to be around them all the time. If Auntie So-and-So comes to your house every Wednesday, maybe you shouldn’t be there every Wednesday. When you give Just-Is folk who are negative [influences] time in your life, they eat away at your confidence. And when your confidence goes, your ability to succeed in life will disappear.”
