Author E. Lynn Harris dies at 54

Author E. Lynn Harris dies at 54(NNPA) -  E. Lynn Harris, the author of best-selling novels about the African-American gay community, has died at age 54, according to the Associated Press.

Publicist Laura Gilmore told AP that Harris died Thursday night, July 23, after being stricken at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills. According to reports, the cause of death had not yet been determined.

Jasmine Guy directs Robin Givens in “For Colored Girls …”(Taylor Media Services) Actress Jasmine Guy has taken on the role of director in a True Colors Theatre production of Ntozake Shange’s play “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide when the Rainbow is Enuf.” Guy is directing Robin Givens and Nicole Ari Parker. The production began July 15 at Atlanta’s Southwest Arts Center and runs through August 9.

(Taylor Media Services) The leading financial publication Forbes was out last week with another one of those “top earners” list. This one focused on the nation’s richest comedians. Standing way atop the list was Jerry Seinfeld whose “Seinfeld” show re-runs, stand-up comedy performances and a lucrative deal with Microsoft brought him in $85 million during the last 12 months.

Rapper Lil Wayne battles $432,000 lawsuit from Bahamian concert promoter(Taylor Media Services) U.S. rapper Lil Wayne (real name Dwayne Carter) is battling back against a $432,000 claim from Red City Entertainment. Via his manager Lil Wayne is denying that he was a no-show for an agreed upon concert in the Bahamas on September 27th of last year. Red City maintains that on the night of the concert, the much-tattooed, 26-year-old rapper was found unconscious in his hotel room by the police.

Soledad O’Brien hosts second annual special about African-Americans

Black in America 2 premieres on CNN on Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday July 23.

A year ago, “Black in America” debuted on CNN to a lot of fanfare, but the 2-part special failed to live up to the hype basically because it bit off more than it could chew. After all, there is tremendous diversity among African Americans, and the show did its best to cover as many sectors of the Black community as possible. Unfortunately, the upshot of that overambitious endeavor was that the program introduced more storylines than it was capable of addressing satisfactorily, and ended up looking less like a documentary than a string of unrelated news stories.
