pops1Under the direction of 'POPS' Montgomery, the Senior Jazz Band of Minnesota has been active in the West Saint Paul community and the greater Twin Cities communities since March of 2008. The first Senior Jazz Band of Minnesota anniversary and awards presentation was held in April 2009.

On June 4, at the 2009 "LIVE" Concert, tribute was paid to 90-year-old tenor saxophonist, Irv Williams, a crowd favorite who has amazed the twin cities with his music for the past five decades. He was awarded the prestigious 'POPS' Montgomery Award (in absentia) for his lifetime contributions to Minnesota Arts and generous musical gifts to the twin cities.

The 'POPS' Montgomery Senior Jazz Band of Minnesota performs with a concert and dance dramatization Friday, October 9, 2009, at 7:30 pm at the Wellstone Neighborhood House Concert Stage in Saint Paul.  This performance will bring a solid devotion to traditional contemporary American jazz. The dance dramatization and the Afro-Latin music, entitled Dustworm: An African Tragedy was written for the stage by 'POPS' Montgomery. This highly entertaining dance-drama will be performed during intermission by the talented dancer and Saint Paul's own, Alanna Morris.

pops2The Wellstone Neighborhood House Concert Stage is located at 179 Robie Street East (at State Street behind El Burrito Market) in Saint Paul. All tickets are $8.00 each.
